A New Reality

Oct 26, 2025    Robert Pitman

John chapter 4 isn't just a story about a chance meeting—it's a divine appointment that reveals how Jesus sees past our shame and into our purpose. The woman lived in isolation, carrying the weight of a promiscuous lifestyle, drawing water at noon to avoid the judgment of others. Yet Jesus had her on His mind all along, deliberately traveling through Samaria to meet her at her point of deepest need. What unfolds is nothing short of revolutionary: Jesus doesn't condemn her past; He liberates her from it. He offers her 'living water'—forgiveness that quenches the thirst of shame and transforms her into the very first evangelist to her village. The message challenges us with three profound realities: a new way to see our past (not as a prison but as a testimony), a new understanding of church (not a building we attend but a presence we carry), and a new clarity about our purpose (to know Jesus and make Him known). The woman who once hid from people became the one who ran to them, saying, 'Come see a man who told me everything I ever did!' Her shame became her story, and her story became their salvation. This is the invitation extended to each of us—to stop letting our past define our future and to start letting our forgiveness fuel our mission.
