Generosity

Oct 4, 2026  •  Jonathan Gray

We think generosity is about money. Jesus says it's about mercy.

In Luke 6:27-38, He doesn't say give more cash. He says, "Love your enemies, bless the people who curse you, and lend expecting nothing back. Why? Because loving people who love you back isn't generosity; it's just a transaction. Even sinners do that.

Real generosity is giving where there's no paycheck, and that forces an uncomfortable question: Are you generous with your forgiveness the way you're generous with your finances? We can be so quick to give money but so slow to give mercy. We write checks to strangers while keeping score with the people closest to us.

God is asking if both hands are open.
